Held annually the second Sunday in December, this year December 13, 2009, The Compassionate Friends Worldwide Candle Lighting® unites family and friends around the globe as they light candles for one hour to honor and remember children who have died at any age from any cause. As candles are lit at 7 pm local time, creating a virtual wave of light, hundreds of thousands of persons commemorate and honor the memory of children who have died in a way that transcends all ethnic, cultural, religious, and political boundaries. Last year more than 500 Worldwide Candle Lighting services covering all 50 states plus Washington DC and Puerto Rico were listed on The Compassionate Friends national website. In addition, information on services were submitted from 24 countries outside the United States. December 14 there will also be a Remembrance Book on The Compassionate Friends national website where you can post a message to honor the memory of a child, sister or brother, or grandchild. This video demonstrates a highly energy-efficient OLED white lighting panel concept for use in commercial or residential lighting. Universal Display and Armstrong World Industries developed this device, in part through support by the US Department of Energy's Solid State Lighting program, to demonstrate the potential energy-savings and other exciting features of solid-state white oleds for lighting. Power-efficient white OLED lighting may reduce energy consumption dramatically and also lower the amount of by-product heat from the light source. Enabled through the use of Universal Displays PHOLED technology, energy-efficient white OLED lighting are a key element to the US Department of Energys solid-state lighting initiative to help reduce worldwide energy burdens created by lighting, a significant consumer of energy. White oleds are also environmentally benign, especially compared to mercury-containing fluorescent lamps and newer compact fluorescent lamps (cfls). Combining these important green features with a very thin, lightweight and durable form factor, white oleds offer significant new lighting design opportunities, such as the one envisioned in this ceiling system concept.
